In the traditional central heating system, low heat transfer capacity results in a large investment of pipe, which limits the heating distance. Presents a retrofitted heat pump heating system to reduce the investment of pipe and irreversible loss of the system. Simulates the thermal performance of this system with Cycle-Tempo soft, and compares the simulation result with those of traditional distributed electric compression heat pump system and central absorption type heat pump system. The results show that the total exergy efficiency of the retrofitted system is 37.037%, which is higher than that of two traditional heat pump heating systems by 11.62% and 14.84% respectively. The total heating cost of the retrofitted system is always minimal when heating distance in the range of 1 to 20 km.
